另外一個英文單字 onion（聽發音）並不是我們一般所說的青蔥，而是洋蔥或蔥頭，不過如果在前面加上 green 寫成 green onion（聽發音）就可以用來表示洋蔥，因為洋蔥通常不會是綠色的，這算是一種描述性的英文表達方式，例如我們臺灣宜蘭著名的三星蔥英文名稱就是 Sansing Green Onion。
