進修英文是 advanced studies（聽發音），中文說的進修或深造都可以用 advanced studies 這樣的說法來表示，其中 advanced 這個字有＂高級的、先進的、進步的、高深的＂等意思，studies 則是 study 的複數形態，中文意思是＂研究、學習、考察＂等，除此之外，進修的英文還有好幾種說法，例如 refresher course、engage in advanced studies、additional studies 或 pursue continuing education 都是，每一種說法都是用不同的方式來描述進修這件事情，refresher course 是一種複習課程的概念，engage in advanced studies 是從事或投入高深研究，而 additional studies 則是額外增加學習的概念。
