另外一個與 city 類似的城市英文說法是 town（聽發音），這個英文單字有＂鎮、鎮區、城鎮＂等意思，僅管 town 通常指鎮，而鎮普遍來說比大城市小規模，不過在許多地方的鎮卻相當繁榮，所以 town 也常拿來直接指城市，例如前面提到的市中心英文也可以說 downtown 或 town center。
